Privacy policy
In short: your trips stay on your iPhone. There are no accounts, ads from us, or analytics. Our API request logs are kept for up to 3 days.
Who we are
Campus Tour Planner was designed and built by a student to help families plan college visits. It is published by his parent, Wen-Yaw Hsieh, the developer of record, who is responsible for this policy. In this policy, “we” and “us” mean the builder and publisher. This policy covers the iPhone app and campustourplanner.com.
Campus Tour Planner is a free, guest-only app for planning college visits. Saving a visit does not register you with a school. Registration happens on the school's official website.
Information saved on your device
Your selected schools, preferences, route drafts, and saved trips are stored in the app on your device. Campus Tour Planner does not provide an account or synchronize that planning information to its servers. To remove this information, tap the info button (ⓘ) on the Plan map, tap Clear device data, then confirm. This does not cancel school registrations or delete copies you chose to share. Your device's backup settings may affect whether app data is included in a device backup.
Requests needed to provide the service
The app requests school details, visit availability, virtual-tour links, and data freshness from the Campus Tour API. Requests may include a school or date you selected. The app does not attach your locally saved trips or an account identifier. Our API runs on Cloudflare. Its logs record your IP address; approximate location derived from it, including city, region, postal code and approximate coordinates; your internet provider; device, browser and language details; technical connection details; and the requested web address and response status. The web address can include a school you looked up. We use these logs to run, secure and troubleshoot the service. Cloudflare Workers Logs are retained for up to 3 days on our current Free plan. Our Worker does not intentionally log request bodies.
Campus images load directly from Supabase Storage. Its request logs can record your IP address, approximate location and internet provider derived from it, browser or device details, technical connection details, and the image address requested. Supabase project logs are available for up to 1 day on our current Free plan.
On iPhone, the map uses Apple Maps. The app starts with estimated drive times and can request Apple's road directions for the public coordinates of campuses you select. The app does not request your phone's GPS location for planning. Driving times that were not measured are labeled as estimates. Apple handles map and directions requests under its own privacy policy.
Websites and apps you choose to open
School registration sites, map apps, and virtual-tour providers operate independently of Campus Tour Planner. After you choose a virtual tour, it opens in an in-app web view with temporary storage. The tour site receives your IP address and may use cookies and scripts. It may load frames, media, or other content from different companies. We do not control that embedded content. The viewer limits where you can browse at the top level and offers to open other HTTPS sites in your browser. Cookies and site data from a tour use temporary storage, not the app's long-term storage. When you tap Open trip in Maps (Apple Maps or Google Maps) or Share trip, relevant destinations or itinerary details pass to the service you select. If you request directions from your current location, the map app, not Campus Tour Planner, handles your location. Review that service's privacy policy before giving it information.
Advertising and analytics
Campus Tour Planner does not place its own ads and has no in-app purchases, behavioral analytics SDK, or third-party crash-reporting SDK. A virtual-tour provider may display its own content or ads within its page. Apple and your device may process diagnostics under their own settings and policies. We do not sell your personal information or use it for advertising, and we do not track you across other companies' apps or websites.
The app and site do not change behavior in response to browser Do Not Track signals because we do not track you across websites. Virtual-tour sites may collect information about your activity over time and across websites under their own policies.
Messages you send to support
If you email support, we receive your email address and whatever details you choose to include. We use the message to respond and investigate your request. Google provides email delivery and storage. We keep support correspondence for 12 months after your last message, then delete it. We never use it for marketing. You can request earlier deletion by writing to the same address; we will explain what can be removed.
Retention and questions
Local planning information remains until you clear it or remove the app's storage. Clearing device data does not delete provider logs, tour-site data, or information you entered on school websites. We keep support correspondence for 12 months after your last message; Cloudflare Workers Logs are retained for up to 3 days and Supabase project logs are available for up to 1 day on our current Free plans. Tour sites, map apps, and school sites set their own retention periods.
The app has no account or server-side trip profile to delete. Provider connection logs expire on fixed schedules and may not be searchable or removable by individual person. For questions or a deletion request, email campustourplanner.support@gmail.com with the approximate date and time of use. We will review what can be removed or corrected and explain the outcome within 30 days. We use Cloudflare and Supabase to operate the API and serve images, and require them to protect information processed for us at least as well as described in this policy. Google handles support email, Apple handles maps and directions, and sites you choose to open follow their own policies.
Children
Campus Tour Planner is meant for students planning college visits and their families. It is not directed to children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has sent us personal information, contact us and we will review and delete what we hold.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we will post the new version here and update the “Last updated” date. For a material change, we will also note it in the app's release notes before the change takes effect.
